GPR and utility surveys in Wiltshire
Salisbury is under an hour from our office near Southampton, and we work across Wiltshire on utility, GPR and topographical surveys for contractors, councils and developers.
What the survey finds
Where we work in Wiltshire
Salisbury, Wilton and Amesbury are a short run up the A36 from our office in West End, typically under an hour. We also work further north in Warminster, Devizes, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Swindon, which is around an hour and a half away. We plan sites further away as full days on site, one site per day.
In 2026 we carried out a combined utility and topographical survey for a contractor near Swindon, giving one drawing of the surface features and the buried services along the route.
What Wiltshire jobs usually involve
- utility surveys ahead of excavation, ducting and directional drilling
- topographical and utility surveys for housing and commercial schemes
- GPR on concrete slabs before cutting, coring or fixing
- void and obstruction surveys on brownfield and rural sites
Chalk and clay
Much of south Wiltshire, including Salisbury Plain, is chalk. Dry chalk usually lets GPR reach useful depths, and it can show solution features: hollows and soft pipes where the chalk has dissolved. These can matter for foundations and drainage. In the north and west of the county, clays are more common. Wet clay absorbs the signal and reduces depth, so we tell you what to expect when we quote, and the report states what depth was achieved.
Heritage sites
Wiltshire has some of the densest prehistoric archaeology in Britain. Where a site has heritage interest, GPR can map buried features without disturbing them. See our archaeological GPR survey page.
Questions we're asked
Do you cover Swindon?
Yes. Swindon is around an hour and a half from our office. We plan it as a full day on site.
Can you do the utility and topographical survey together?
Yes. One team covers both in the same visit, and you receive a single CAD drawing with the surface features and buried services in the same coordinates.
