RAAC plank survey utilising GPR technology ensures the safety and longevity of your RAAC plank roof.

GPR survey offers a non-intrusive and cost-effective method to survey a RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) plank roof and determine if the planks are structurally sound, or if further work is needed. RAAC plank survey can done from the roof itself looking down into the plank, with minimal/ no disturbance of the normal operations inside the building below.

Any planks which show signs of problems will be highlighted for further, targeted works and to be assessed; when necessary, they can be either replaced or reinforced to be made safe.

KG Surveys have extensive experience of GPR and other non-destructive surveys, and can advise how best to tackle your roof, for the lowest cost, without compromising on survey quality.

Benefits of GPR surveying your RAAC plank roof

Completely non-intrusive

No need to drill or cut into the RAAC planks, minimising cost and disruption to the building below

Low impact on occupants

Due to the absence of cutting or drilling into the structure, GPR does not create tension with the users of the building

Accurate results

GPR survey is able to accurately determine which RAAC planks require further investigation

Improve safety

Roof failure could result in risk to the buildings occupants; a GPR survey can help prevent this occurrence

FAQ

What is RAAC plank?

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC plank) is prefabricated concrete plank which are aerated to reduce weight and increase insulation properties.

Which buildings used RAAC plank construction?

RAAC plank construction was widely used from 1950 until the late 1980’s and can be found in many locations including schools, hospitals and public buildings.

Why do RAAC plank roofs require survey?

Most RAAC plank roofs have exceeded their designed service life and many will have experienced issues with corrosion. The large variation in RAAC plank construction makes it impossible to determine which roofs require work and which are sound without intrusive investigation or a GPR survey.

How much does a RAAC plank survey cost?

Survey costs have to be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the location, size of the roof, access restrictions and roof coverings. Please contact us to receive a quote.
