What is a visual inspection or defect mapping survey?

A visual condition survey only requires a
surveyor to access the structure, there is no measurement equipment or
significant presence required. As a result, this kind of survey is relatively

Visual inspection and defect mapping surveys
provide additional perspective on a structure which in some cases may not be
practical to survey another way. It is possible to build a complete picture of
the structural health, or alternatively to highlight where additional
information is required from GPR or other non-intrusive investigations, before,
finally, undertaking intrusive investigations if required.
Defect mapping surveys of any structure
Coupled with GPR surveys, we have performed
visual inspection and defect mapping surveys on retaining walls, canal locks,
and sea defences. Surveys have been conducted from both the land side and
sea/water side of the structure.

include spalling, efflorescence, delamination, corrosion, erosion, displacement,
